You Are Already Enough

I first discovered Zox by chance, scrolling through the web for a bracelet I liked. I've been making DIY bracelets for years, but I wanted to see if maybe there was a bracelet that checked some certain boxes. Zox did. I loved how each one had a positive message...one I could connect to a memory or an experience. This bracelet stood out to me. In the world of high school, and maybe life as well, people say you have to act a certain way for people to like you. Dress a certain way so it is not embarrassing to talk to you. Say certain things so you can fit in. Eat a certain amount of calories a day so you are not fat. But never once does someone say that you are enough. It's okay to come to school with your hair a curly frizzy mop on your head because you are not all your physical appearance. You are enough. It's okay if you like to eat pizza and ice cream. You don't have to live on salads to be skinny, so that you are considered enough. In all the classes and all the people I have met, no one seems to realize their worth. Maybe they have all A's, and are considered "nerds". Maybe they are kids from the drama class, or the art class, who can't seem to accept the "social rules" of how they should be separated into boxes. Whatever it is, most of the people I have met have one thing in common: they believe they are worthless. That they must wake up three hours early, to take a shower, straighten their hair, dress in uncomfortable clothes, and put on make-up. That they must spend hours in the weight room after school, damaging muscle tissue in an effort to look like the other guys. The belief that they are worthless is planted in their heads, and the fight and struggle are real. They want so much to be like the other people and look like the other people, they seem to forget their own worth, and individuality. No one tells them that they are enough the way they are. Instead, they must somehow alter how they look, and act to be accepted or forever be called weird, worthless, ugly, fat. This bracelet gives a powerful message, and it connects with me. We all have wonderful worth, and do not need to change any part of ourselves to be enough...we already are.
