There’s something about Dreamcatchers I just think are so magical. But where did they come from?I went down a bit of a rabbit hole on this one, so come along on the journey with me.

Dreamcatchers are a tradition that originated with the Ojibwe (or Chippewa, as they were known in our home state of Michigan) people, one of the largest Indigenous groups in North America. They were originally created as protective charms, meant to filter out bad dreams and let only the good ones pass through. The webbing in the middle is symbolic of a spider’s web, catching negativity and keeping it away while allowing positivity to flow freely.

What I find so incredible about this is the universal appeal of the idea - the concept of effectively putting up a wall to protect our peace is something all of us can relate to. Whether it’s an actual dreamcatcher hanging above your bed, or the habits you create in your own life to keep your mind and heart safe, the idea of finding and keeping what’s good feels like a little bit of magic we could all use.

With Dream Big, I wanted to honor that sense of protection while also thinking about what it does: It gives us hope, perseverance, determination and a strong will.

Why?

Because when we can rid our mind of all those constantly negative thoughts and finally see how good things can be, it's nearly impossible not to be excited about the future - about all the amazing potential in front of us.

So as you wear this one, take a moment to dream big. Let it remind you that even in life’s toughest moments, there’s always space to weave hope and light into your story.

Big Hugs!
Jason
