Story

There's a song that Jillian, our teacher, taught Sven and Mars when she first started that I just can't help but play back in my mind every time I think of this design. It's called the Garden Song, and I'm fairly certain it was originally made popular by John Denver back in the 70s. It's also the first song my kids have ever memorized from start to finish all by themselves and it is absolutely adorable to listen to them sing it. The first part of the lyrics are what makes me love it the most:

Inch by inch, row by row
going to make this garden grow
all I need is a rake and a hoe
and a piece of fertile ground
Inch by inch, row by row
please bless these seeds I sow
please warm them from below
til the rain comes tumbin' down

What I love about this song so much (other than listening to these adorable little voices singing it) is that from the very beginning, it's speaking about the consistency - every inch of every row is being tended to. And I think that's a really great way to reflect back on how good things tend to happen in our lives as well. Rather than just hoping for something good to happen out of nowhere, we need to til the soil and sew the seeds for what we want. In slightly less farm-centric terms, we need to pay attention to every part of our lives and invest our time in the things we know make us the happiest.

The reason I feel like this is such a perfect metaphor for this Strap is that improving our lives isn't just a switch we flip - it's taking action every single day to get a little better. Over time, those little things add up to something wonderful that's rarely seen while we're in it. Only when we look back are we able to see how far we've come.

So that's my hope for you with this wonderful Strap. Whether you're just starting on your journey of self improvement or you've been on it for a while, I hope this ZOX reminds you that each step you take in the right direction is a wonderful achievement in it's own. Even if it seems like nothing has changed yet, just give it time, the results are always worth the wait.

Big Hugs!
