It's so easy to have our first thoughts of the day be hinged on the last ones from the night before, isn't it?
There's actually a study that was done on this by the National Science Foundation in 2008 that proved this feeling we all have to be true. It found that on average, 80% of the thoughts we have each day are negative and 95% are repetitive, meaning we're all stuck in this loop of worrying about the same thing over and over.
As a writer, C.S. Lewis's take on this is absolutely poetic:
"You can't go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending."
The key to doing this, I've learned, is just giving ourselves permission to 'start over'.
This is a lot easier said than done though, because of two things: First, we think that starting where we are now means that all the time we spent up to that point was somehow wasted.
Second, we think that we're too far along now and we'd rather just get the best version of this mediocre path than start over behind the pack.
Both of these thoughts miss out on the point I really hope this beautiful bracelet helps you remember in 2025: It's good to begin again. Your past wasn't wasted, it's what got you to this very point right now where you have the opportunity to start again with years of knowledge and a fresh perspective.
