Story

I had a different story lined up for this beautiful design, but I wanted to share something that just happened today instead.

Exactly a week ago today (Wednesday), my entire immediate family left our home here in Austin - they had driven down here in an RV from Michigan (instead of flying) to be cautious of COVID. On their way home, my mom somehow contracted it and on Monday was put in the ICU. Other members of my family from Michigan were diagnosed with it soon after and what had become one of my favorite memories of our entire family together here was quickly turning into a scary situation.

We have a text message with all of our immediate family that's typically only used for get-togethers. Upon discovering my Mom was positive, the group continued to light up with messages to one another, offering support, prayers, encouragement and help in any way possible.

Today my Dad said something that fits in so perfectly with this release that I couldn't help but write about it: "One nice thing about all this is that we are communicating more!"

Of everyone in my family, my Dad has been through more than any human being should have to endure - one of the most prominent things being the nearly 15 years of severe chronic pain from a surgery gone bad that wasn't discovered til it was too late. He is high risk and he was definitely exposed, yet through all this he was just happy that we all were talking more.

That, my friends, is the absolute core of what this ZOX is about. There's a lot of horrible things going on in the world around us. If we allow ourselves to be consumed by everything that's wrong, the clouds from the days ahead only compound on the ones from before.

My hope for this ZOX is remarkably simple this week: Be more like my Dad.

Big hugs.
