When I first saw the art for this design, I was blown away by the detail - the ferocity in the wolves faces. It looked to me as though they were defending something precious, something important behind them. That reminded me of a quote I had seen a long time ago by the English author G.K. Chesterton. It fit so perfectly in this context that I just had to use it on the card.
The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him.
Makes you think, doesn't?
What are you fighting for? What do you care so deeply about that you are willing to go to battle every day to ensure its safety?
I think all of us need to find that passion to love so deeply that we are willing to fight for it.
Lately, I've found so much satisfaction in my work by realizing who I am fighting - internally, we call it the shadow. It's the negativity that creeps in, the exclusion that makes us feel like we don't belong, and the anxiety that things aren't going to work out.
We are all guardians, whether we realize it or not. And, to be honest, if you're here reading this, I'm guessing you're here, fighting right along side me.
