When I was working on the words for this first week of the new year, the reminder from all the signs my mom had hanging up in our home was a huge inspiration for me.
This one in particular, 'Home is where the heart is' hits especially deep for me. You see, for most of my life, my parents lived in the same house in Michigan. A couple years ago, with no kids currently at home anymore, they decided to sell my childhood home and move.
The first time I visited their new place, it was so strange. I was so used to coming back to Michigan and going back to the same house, sleeping in my old room and thinking everything would remain the same forever.
But this experience taught me a really interesting lesson: Where we live can change, so if we find comfort only in the familiar, we are always bound to be anxious about the future, about what happens next. To me, this wonderful phrase is so much more than just an old sign hanging up in my parents old home - it's a reminder that our home is not just a place where we live - that's a house. A home is where we go to feel safe, loved, cared for and appreciated it.
Sometimes it's not easy, and, let's be real, no home is perfect. But my hope for you, with this beautiful bracelet, is that it helps you learn to be okay with change as you discover the new places your heart feels happiest.
