Rest is the only item on the schedule that everybody treats as optional, which is strange when you consider that it is the one thing the rest of the schedule depends on. We will defend a meeting to the death. We will move sleep for almost anything.
I Have Plans flips that with a completely straight face. The plans are real. There is a bed involved, and a pillow that has been waiting patiently since morning, and a whole night of doing nothing that has been booked for some time. No further detail is required.
What makes it more than a joke is how much permission people apparently need to say it. Somewhere we picked up the idea that a night in only counts if you have earned it, or if you are unwell, or if there was no better offer.
None of that is true. Choosing rest on a night when you could have done something else is not a failure of nerve, it is a decision made by someone who knows how they work.
