A home does not announce itself. It accumulates, quietly and mostly out of order, in the mug somebody always uses and the door that has to be lifted slightly and the fact that everyone knows where to sit without being told.
The artwork suits that exactly. Small simple flowers, hand drawn and not at all showy, the kind of pattern you stop noticing and would miss immediately.
What makes a place feel like home has very little to do with how it looks and almost everything to do with whether the people in it are gentle with each other. The tone of voice used for ordinary logistics. Whether somebody notices you are having a bad day. Whether the small kindnesses happen when nobody is watching.
Those are not grand gestures and they never feel like much at the time, which is precisely why they work. Love in a house is mostly maintenance, performed daily by people who would be embarrassed to call it that.
It grows where it is tended. That is the whole trick, and it always was.
