Progress is Progress Bracelet

I have this bad habit of discounting the small stuff, of moving the finish line the moment I get close to it, and then looking back on a week of real, genuine effort and thinking "but did I actually do enough?" Maybe you know the feeling.

The thing about sea turtles is that when a baby hatchling crawls from the sand and makes those first scrambling, clumsy, exhausted inches toward the water, that counts. Every inch counts, and it doesn't matter that the ocean is still thirty feet away, because the movement is real and the progress is real. We forget that about ourselves constantly, measuring ourselves against the full distance instead of celebrating how far we've already come, and it robs us of something important: the motivation that comes from actually recognizing your own momentum.

This strap is a reminder to stop waiting until you've "made it" to acknowledge that you're already moving, because the small steps aren't the warm-up for the real work, they are the real work. That image of the hatchling stuck with me when we were designing this collection, and it also made me think about the people out there counting those hatchlings, protecting those nests, doing the unglamorous work of conservation one small step at a time. That's exactly what Mote does, and the progress they've made for sea turtles along the way is worth every bit of attention we can give it.

In fact, in previous years:

2,344 sea turtle hatchlings received rehabilitative care at Mote.
860 calls were answered by Mote’s 24 hour hotline for stranded marine animal response.
25 sea turtles were rehabilitated and released.
4,284 sea turtle nestswere documented by Mote scientists and volunteers.
A new Sea Turtle Protection Zone was announced by Mote in Sarasota County to keep turtles safe from unintended boat strikes.

We will be donating a portion of our proceeds for every design sold on our site from our Sea Turtle Collection to Mote, a wonderful organization that's leading the way in marine research and conservation.
