This is one I've been wanting to make for a while now. I've found that of all the lies our minds try to tell us, the biggest one is that we do not matter.
One of my favorite Christmas movies ever is 'It's A Wonderful Life'. I was around 7 or 8 when I first watched it, but the question behind it fascinated me:
What would the world be like if I wasn't here?
When I was younger, I really struggled with my purpose. Why do I even exist? I'm not special, I don't have any real talents or things that I'm bringing to the table. Other than my family, who would even notice if I disappeared?
As a parent now, if I knew my child was thinking these kind of thoughts, this is the ZOX I would have given them. This is the kind of conversation I would want to be having with them, so they could see the bigger picture, like that movie so wonderfully illustrates.
Think, for a moment, of every relationship you have in your life outside of your family. The really important ones, as well as the simple acquaintances.
How'd you meet them?
Chances are good it wasn't just a random encounter - it was an introduction from someone else who's probably felt the same way you have - like they didn't matter. Yet in introducing you to someone new, they changed the course of your life in ways you never would have imagined.
Now think about this - you've introduced people and set their lives on new trajectories as well. You've effectively changed the course of history through something as small and simple as interacting with others.
That's incredible.
You see, I think it's so easy to say "I'm not an inventor, a politician or someone famous. No one's lives change if I'm not here."
But we have to remember that meeting other people is what changes our lives more than anything else - it's the seed from which everything else happens in the first place.
My hope for you, with this ZOX, is that you see how much of an impact you really are. You don't have to be famous to change the world, you just have to be here.
