Story:
In November of 2018, my family and I visited Cambodia for the first time. While the old temples are truly a sight to behold, my heart sank as our guide Narong told me the story of life there.
In the late 1970s, Cambodia lost nearly 25% of its population (almost 2 million people) from genocide. In the 1980s, they went through a civil war, leaving over 3,000,000 active land mines across the country. Average wages in Cambodia are some of the lowest in the world - the actual income per day is typically less than $5 USD. While they have one of the largest lakes in Southeast Asia, clean water is incredibly hard to find. To be honest, the living conditions there are just heartbreaking - I teared up many times as we went around the city.
My hope for ZOXBOX12 is simple: To show love to the people of Cambodia.
Each Strap in this box was painted by an artist with a family member affected by the land mines. Through the sale of this set, we’re donating directly to each artist in hopes of raising their quality of life, allowing them to ensure their loved ones get the care they need.
We’re also funding 25 new fresh water wells across Cambodia with the help of our friend Narong. After losing his best friend to a land mine on their way to get water when he was only 8 years old, helping villagers get fresh water in a safe, effective way has been a dream of his ever since. Together, we’re making that a reality.
